U.S.
IEEE Members — Show You CARE About Policy Issues on Capitol Hill
IEEE-USA unveiled
its Congressional Advocacy Recruitment Effort (CARE) during the
IEEE-USA 2001 Workshop in late April. Leaders are recruiting U.S. IEEE
members to get involved in the policy-making process.
The CARE initiative
asks interested U.S. IEEE members to pledge to arrange a constituent
visit to their U.S. Senators and Representatives, either in Washington,
D.C., or in their home district offices. The visits should be made
during the 107th Congress (2001-2002).
If every Senator and
every Representative receives one visit alone, we could see big
results for the engineering profession
— especially if even a few of
those visits help our federal leaders to connect with
our members as trusted sources of information and advice on technical
issues on a long-term basis.
To make CARE work,
IEEE-USA is providing issue alerts, background information and a
"how-to" tutorial and on-line video on arranging successful
congressional visits. PACE Chairs for each of IEEE’s U.S. Sections
have been asked to help find members in their Sections who are willing
to make these visits.
Volunteers can
call on IEEE-USA for assistance with planning or making their visits. For more
information on the project, or to find out how you can participate,
visit the CARE web page at: http://www.ieeeusa.org/forum/care.
