Calling all engineering professionals
— NCEES seeks volunteers for FE exam
content review
The National Council of
Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)
is currently seeking engineering professionals
to participate in an online survey that will be
used to update the test specifications for the
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, typically
the first step in the process leading to
professional engineering licensure.
NCEES needs responses from a
broad cross section of engineering professionals
— including licensed professional engineers,
engineering educators, practicing engineers and
engineer interns — from all engineering
disciplines to identify the fundamental
knowledge and skills that engineer interns need
to work in a manner that safeguards the health,
safety, and welfare of the public. A high rate
of return on the survey will also help to ensure
the validity of the resulting examination.
“These studies help NCEES ensure
its licensing exams remain relevant to current
professional practice,” explained Director of
Exam Services Tim Miller, P.E. “The value of
this content review depends on the number of
people who participate, so NCEES is eager to get
input from as many engineering professionals as
possible.”
The survey is organized into two
sections: Participant Background and Engineering
Discipline Knowledge Areas. And although the FE
exam itself is comprised of several discipline
specific modules (corresponding to engineering
disciplines), respondents will only be asked
questions about content that matches their own
engineering background.
The survey can be completed in
30 to 45 minutes. Responses must be received no
later than 5 December 2011.
