Resources for the Member

By Abby Vogel Robinson

Each month, Today’s Engineer will highlight five different programs, products and services from IEEE-USA and elsewhere around the IEEE,  designed to help the members with their careers and professional development. Whether you're a student trying to select a focus, if you're just starting your career, or if you're getting close to retirement, IEEE has a wealth of resources to help you at every stage of your professional life.

1.  Engineers Week (EWeek)

Celebrate the profession during Engineers Week (EWeek), 20-26 February 2011. As always, a number of high-profile events are planned for the week in Washington, across the country and around the world. EWeek 2011 has the Discover Engineering Family Day festival, sponsored by IEEE-USA, on Saturday, 19 February, at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

2.  Innovation E-Book Series

This series of IEEE-USA E-Books on innovation provides the basics for gaining an understanding of what innovation involves, what it takes to be an innovator, and what it takes to develop a culture where innovation can thrive.

3. IEEE-USA Annual Meeting

The 2011 IEEE-USA Annual Meeting provides an unparalleled training opportunity for IEEE’s U.S. volunteers and members. Industry leaders will explore one of the most important engineering challenges facing the world: engineering automobiles and transportation systems to make better use of available energy resources and to implement innovative energy solutions. Attendees will be briefed on pressing social, economic and political issues surrounding transportation and energy, as well as training in how to take outreach programs and ideas home.

4.  IEEE Certified Biometrics Professional ® (CBP) Program

Increase your knowledge and establish credibility in the field of biometrics with the IEEE Certified Biometrics Professional® (CBP) program. Together, IEEE and some of the world’s leading biometrics experts have developed a new certification program to meet the training, hiring, and evaluation needs of professionals and companies throughout the biometrics industry.

5.  IEEE-USA Awards

Each year, IEEE-USA recognizes excellence, outstanding service and contributions to professional activities. IEEE-USA Awards are given to recognize professionalism, technical achievement, and literary contributions to public awareness and understanding of the engineering profession. Award recipients are announced each year at a special Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with the IEEE-USA Annual Meeting. Nominate someone you know for an award today!
