Resources for the Member

By Gary Blank

Each month, Today’s Engineer highlights five different programs, products and services from IEEE-USA and elsewhere around the IEEE,  designed to help the members with their careers and professional development. Whether you're a student trying to select a focus, if you're just starting your career, or if you're getting close to retirement, IEEE has a wealth of resources to help you at every stage of your professional life.

1.  IEEE MyHomeBenefits (Moving Discount)

This is our discount program with North American Van Lines, which entitles IEEE members to discounted rates on interstate moves. These savings can be an important consideration when one decides to relocate for employment, a business opportunity, or education. MyHomeBenefits also can transport members' belongings anywhere in the world, insured.

Buying and moving into a new home can be expensive, time-consuming and stressful. MyHomeBenefits, exclusively for members of IEEE., is your one-stop resource for everything you need to move your home - faster, easier and more affordably than ever before.

2.  IEEE Gateway International Insurance Plans

The Gateway International Insurance Plans offer solutions for special insurance needs when traveling abroad. They are available to members, their families, and associates.
The plans are useful in many situations, and particularly when existing coverage is limited, during international business or leisure travel; when participating in academic, business or cultural exchange activities; or for employees, contract workers or consultants on international assignments.

All plans offer combined insurance and services, such as coverage for accident and illness, medical expenses, transportation expenses associated with medical evacuation and repatriation, indemnity in event of accidental death or dismemberment, and worldwide travel and medical assistance services. Depending on the plan selected, other features and options are available.

3. Microsoft Software Offer for IEEE Student members

IEEE, in conjunction with Microsoft, is pleased to offer a wide selection of development software to IEEE Student members and Graduate Student members. The steps to obtain the software and the highlights of the available software can be found at:

4.  IEEE National/Alamo Car Rental

IEEE travel discounts offer members the opportunity to save on personal and business travel around the world. Vendors’ terms and conditions apply.

5.  IEEE Continuing Education Providers (CEP) Program

IEEE members worldwide have said they want more continuing education opportunities. And they expect IEEE, the world's largest technical professional society, to provide those opportunities.

Through agreements with continuing education providers, The IEEE Continuing Education Providers Program (CEP) strives to meet the needs of its members by providing a value added member benefit as well as an additional marketing channel and revenue stream for its providers.

Providers world-wide are offering continuing education opportunities to IEEE members who will receive a minimum 10% discount on courses towards Degree Programs, Continuing Education Units (CEU's) and Professional Development Hours (PDH's).

The Academic and Corporate providers and the available courses can be found at:
