IEEE-USA Toolkit: Resources for the Member

By Abby Vogel

In each of the coming months, Today’s Engineer will highlight five different programs, products & services from IEEE-USA and elsewhere around the IEEE,  designed to help the members with their careers and professional development. Whether you're a student trying to select a focus, if you're just starting your career, or if you're getting close to retirement, IEEE has a wealth of resources to help you at every stage of your professional life.

1.  Career Webinars

The IEEE-USA Employment and Career Services Committee has launched a webinar series that will assist you in finding your next job, maintaining your career, negotiating an appropriate salary, and understanding ethical considerations in the workplace, among other career building strategies.

2.  Eye on Washington

What’s New @ IEEE-USA Eye on Washington highlights important federal legislative and regulatory developments that affect U.S. engineers and their careers. In addition to this bi-weekly newsletter, subscribers receive legislative bulletins and action alerts on IEEE-USA priority issues, including: retirement security, employment benefits, research & development funding, computers and information policy, immigration reform, intellectual property protection, and privacy of health/medical information.

3. “Discoveries & Breakthroughs Inside Science” Videos

IEEE-USA brings “Discoveries and Breakthroughs Inside Science” (DBIS) to U.S. IEEE members and to viewers of local English and Spanish newscasts all over the United States. With accurate, peer-reviewed and reliable science and engineering information, DBIS covers many recent developments in devices and systems we use every day. These stories provide access to quality science and engineering news.

4.  Precollege Teacher Reward/Grant Program

IEEE-USA’s Precollege Education Committee’s Precollege Teacher Reward/Grant Program helps teachers to sponsor innovation and creativity in or outside of the classroom.  These rewards/grants provide small amounts of funding for novel ideas that introduce engineering to students.

5.  Facebook Fan Page

IEEE-USA has a Facebook Fan Page! You can read the latest news, learn about new programs, products and services, and connect with other U.S. IEEE members by visiting us today.
