The IEEE Foundation and You – Making a Difference

By Karen Kaufman

IEEE-USA’s programs, products and services are supported through a special assessment of U.S. IEEE members, through sales of products and services, and by member gifts and contributions to the IEEE-USA Fund administered by the IEEE Foundation.

The IEEE Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established in 1973 in the State of New York "exclusively to support the scientific and educational purposes of IEEE." The scope and structure of the IEEE Foundation has evolved through the years, but today its role is to cultivate resources and relationships to advance the IEEE core purpose to foster technological innovation and excellence to benefit humanity. To fulfill its role, the IEEE Foundation relies on donations to award grants to new and innovative projects, and administers more than 130 donor-designated funds that support a variety of educational, humanitarian, historical preservation, and peer recognition programs of IEEE.

IEEE initiatives and projects can’t be supported by membership dues alone—therefore it is important for the IEEE Foundation to raise discretionary resources. Every IEEE member has opportunities to make a difference by donating, and donations may be specified for the IEEE-USA Fund. The IEEE-USA Fund supports projects that enhance the careers of U.S. IEEE members, improve K-12 math/science education, and promote public awareness of the profession. Visit the IEEE-USA website to learn more about the organization or to review a list of specific IEEE-USA programs and initiatives that could be significantly enhanced through tax-exempt gifts to the IEEE-USA Fund.

Contributions of any amount are welcome, appreciated and make a difference. For more information or to discuss tribute gifts in honor of a colleague or loved one, or how to include the IEEE in your estate plans, contact the IEEE Development Office at +1 732 562 5550 or at donate@ieee.org. Double or triple your gift through your employer’s matching gift program. Your Human Resources office can tell you if your company matches employee donations, or visit ieeefouundation.org for a list of matching gift companies.
